NATIVE AMERICAN WRITERS PITCH WORKSHOP

November 14th, 2017 — The 11th Annual LA SKINS FEST opened with the 6th Annual NATIVE AMERICAN WRITERS PITCH WORKSHOP. Native writers met with showrunners and pitched to creative executives, agents, managers and writing consultants.

The first portion of the workshop was an introduction to pitching. Our guest speaker was Mike Royce (Netflix showrunner for One Day at a Time). He discussed his experience with pitching and how to pitch to network executives. This portion gave insight into providing the best presentation when pitching new projects.

NATIVE AMERICAN WRITERS PITCH WORKSHOP continued with Native American writers pitchingscripts to creative executives, literary representation and industry consultants. This year’s participants included executives from Disney, FOX, CBS All-Access, STARZ, UTA, Bad Robot, Warner Bros, and more.

Following the pitch segment, The workshop wrapped with a discussion with a Warner Horizon executive. This portion allowed out Native American participants to inquire about writing for movies, feature studios, and production companies.

“Getting to know other writers during the Lab, and everything the L.A. Skins Fest has done since —  setting up meetings, continually promoting its writers — has created opportunities and connections I wouldn’t have otherwise,” Fellow Lab writer Carlee Malemute told the Hollywood Reporter.
