The LA SKINS FEST, in partnership with CBS, is continuing the CBS/SKINS DIRECTORS INITIATIVE for 2015.
This program locates, encourages and develops Native American directors. In 2013, we collaborated with CBS to create the SKINS DIRECTORS INITIATIVE. This is a monthly workshop that gives Native American directors the opportunity to hone their craft and advance their careers. We have advanced workshops, panel discussions and professional opportunities for Native American directors. The SKINS DIRECTORS INITIATIVE is currently continuing its partnership with CBS. The monthly CBS/SKINS DIRECTORS INITIATIVE takes place every last Saturday of each month. If you are interested in participating in the CBS/SKINS DIRECTORS INITIATIVE, please email [email protected]
The LA SKINS FEST is focused on developing Native American directors. In 2011, we partnered with DISNEY/ABC to have a career-building workshop for Native American directors. The workshop provided professional feedback on the participants’ director reels and gave advice on their directing careers.
On November 13th, 2012, we conducted an intensive Directors Workshop for Native Americans. This initiative gave Native American directors professional mentorship and provided a genuine career building experience that inspired them to the reach the next level. Native American directors worked with a professional mentor director, director of photography, and actors on selected scenes. The mentor director offered guidance and advice on technique, method and cinematic possibilities.
A panel discussion followed the workshop to offer additional advice. Each mentor director discussed his own career paths to getting into the DGA, finding representation and maintaining employment. This portion offered useful information to aspiring Native American directors.
