Cante Etanhan Iapi (Language of the Heart)
Faced with dwindling number of Nakoda and Dakota language speakers, the Fort Peck Tribes’ Language and Culture Department is working with the youth and elders to teach and preserve the languages. Twenty years ago there were 250 native fluent speakers on the reservation. Today, there are about 60. The film features interviews of some of the remaining speakers and follows the summer youth immersion students on their quest to learn the language, history and culture of their people.
