Due to the incredible success of our year round writers programs, we are partnering with the Cherokee Nation Film Office to launch the Native American Writers Seminar. This is a new intensive that provides mentoring support for new and developing writers.

“The Cherokee Nation Film Office is thrilled to present this new seminar for emerging Native American screenwriters. We are experiencing a renaissance, where television and film audiences crave more diverse storytelling. The need to develop more Native American screenwriters, who can take a seat at those tables and create that content, is immediate.” Announced Jennifer Loren, Executive Director; Cherokee Nation Film Office. “We believe workshops like this are a key part of the pipeline already established by the Native American Media Alliance which has successfully provided Native writers with access to Hollywood decision-makers”

The Native American Writers Seminar is a multi-day workshop that will focus on the development of an existing script and provide preparation for submission to writing fellowships. The workshop will offer new tools for Native American writers to better compete as a creative and prepare them for professional opportunities. Instructors, speakers, and mentors in the workshop will offer insight into creative development, personal branding and discuss the writing landscape from their experienced perspective.

The purpose of the seminar is to further empower Native Americans to develop their writing craft and provide insight into the film and television industry. This seminar will also help them prepare a developed writing sample that can bolster their fellowship opportunities.

About the Program

The week-long curriculum will have daily creative discussions with experienced writers, literary representation, and representatives of prestigious writing programs. These discussions will provide additional insight into artistic development, applying for fellowships, and exploring professional opportunities.

The week will culminate with a one on one meeting with a creative executive, agent, manager or showrunner. This final conversation will have the professional speaker provide guidance on the  seminar participant’s career path, creative level, and next steps. Each seminar participant will have the opportunity to discuss creative development, enhance their respective materials and improve their writing sample. The goal of each component is to get their script at the most polished level possible for submission to fellowships, creative executives and literary representation.
