20th Annual LA SKINS FEST Announces Call For Film Submissions!

January 27 @ 8:00 am - March 1 @ 5:00 pm

Celebrating Two Decades of Indigenous Excellence in Cinema

The Barcid Foundation is proud to announce that film submissions are now officially open for the 20th Annual LA SKINS FEST. This year marks an incredible milestone in our mission to provide a premier platform for Native American filmmakers and to ensure our stories are told with authenticity and cultural integrity.

As the largest Native American film festival in the United States, the LA SKINS FEST has spent twenty years championing the voices of Native artists. While other industry events may offer “Native sections”, the LA SKINS FEST remains a 100% Native-led organization dedicated exclusively to the empowerment of our community.

“Reaching our 20th anniversary is a testament to the resilience and brilliance of our storytellers.” Announced Ian Skorodin, Festival Founder. “We started this festival to reclaim our narrative sovereignty, and two decades later, we continue to prove that when Native people lead the way, the entire industry is elevated by the truth of our voices.”

Films accepted in the festival will be eligible for the competition and prizes from our corporate sponsors. This year, awards will be given to the following categories: Achievement in Narrative Filmmaking, Documentary, Narrative Short, Documentary Short, Animation, Writer, Director, Actor, Actress and Audience Award.

This year’s festival will offer a week-long series of events throughout Hollywood. The film festival will premier exciting new indigenous films, present the 15th Annual Native Media Awards Ceremony and celebrate indigenous filmmakers from around the world.

The festival is an initiative of the Native American non-profit the Barcid Foundation and aims to showcase the rising talent in Native American filmmaking. This year the LA SKINS FEST is expanding the screening series to accommodate the growing talent in Indian Country.
