DESCRIPTION:NATIVE TV WRITERS LAB \nThe 2nd Annual NATIVE AMERICAN TV WRITERS LAB call for submissions opens Friday November 18th\, 2017 during the 10th Annual LA SKINS FILM FEST. The lab is sponsored by NBCUniversal\, CBS Entertainment Diversity\, HBO and FOX Audience Strategy. \nThe first lab took place in Spring of 2016 and had 8 Native American writers complete an original pilot during the 5 week program. The participants met with executives from NBC\, CBS\, FOX and Lionsgate. and had their scripts read by Amazon Studios and Echolake Entertainment. The lab culminates in a pitch workshop Tuesday November 15th that will have each Native writer pitch their scripts to creatives executives from Bad Robot\, ABC\, NBC\, CBS\, FOX\, Lionsgate and several other creative executives and literary managers. \nThe Native American TV Writers Lab is an intensive scriptwriters workshop that prepares Native Americans for writing careers at major television networks. Modeled after the successful National Hispanic Media Coalition Television Writers Program\, this lab is designed to address the lack of Native American writers in primetime network TV. \nApplication Deadline: TBA \nProgram Dates: TBA \nWHAT IT IS \nThe NATIVE AMERICAN TV WRITERS LAB was created in accordance with the LA Skins Fest’s mission to improve media portrayals of Native Americans and to increase the number of Native Americans employed in all facets of the media industry. \nThe NATIVE AMERICAN TV WRITERS LAB is designed to familiarize participants with the format\, characters and storyline structure of television. The five week\, total immersion workshop will be mentored and guided by Geoff Harris\, the current instructor of the National Hispanic Media Coalition Writers Program and former head of Story Development at NBCUniveral. The lab will be conducted in Los Angeles\, CA with a maximum of 7 writers accepted. \nThe five-week lab will consist of panel discussions\, one on one meetings and group workshops. One of the main components to be introduced is the writers room. This is an opportunity to have each participant’s script offered up in a professional capacity as a new television script. All of the writers will participate in offering ideas\, suggestions\, and thoughts on making it a strong piece. The goal is that the writers garner the skills necessary to obtain employment in the industry. \nAPPLICATION PROCESS \nHow it Works: \nThe program will take place in 2017. \nIf accepted into the program you must be willing to make a commitment to meeting evenings on Mondays\, Wednesdays\, and Fridays\, and in the day on Saturdays and Sundays. This program does not provide travel or housing. \nWho Should Apply: \nThe NATIVE AMERICAN TV WRITERS LAB is for seasoned writers who are capable of writing at least a one half-hour comedy or a one-hour dramatic television script in English within a five-week period of time. Each selected participant is expected to complete at least one script by the end of the five-week session\, which will then be read by network executives. Those writers whose scripts show promise will be interviewed and mentored by the network executives with the objective of placing them on a show. \nWhen to Apply: \nThe submission period for the 2017 NATIVE AMERICAN TV WRITERS LAB opens Friday November 18th\, 2016. \nHow to Apply: \nRequirements: \nEmail a completed application\, a completed release form\, submit one writing sample of any type to include feature film\, play\, pilots and specs in PDF format. Television scripts are preferred.  Please note that writing teams are ineligible.
