SUMMARY:The Sacred Place Where Life Begins—Gwich’In Women Speak
DESCRIPTION:In 1988\, elders of the Gwich’in nation\, people native to northern Alaska and Canada\, called a gathering to discuss the threat of oil and gas development in the coastal plain of the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge. This area is a birthing and nursing ground for the Porcupine Caribou Herd\, on which the Gwich’in people have depended physically\, culturally and spiritually for millennia. In their language\, they call this land “The Sacred Place Where Life Begins.” Since 1988\, the Gwich’in nation has been gathering every two years. This short documentary shares the voices of Gwich’in women at the 2010 gathering\, who speak out for their sacred land\, the caribou\, their way of life\, and indigenous and human rights for future generations. These women inspire audiences around the country to action and will move you to join their effort to permanently protect their sacred land which is also our public land today.

DESCRIPTION:Based on British Columbia’s “highway of tears” The Wolf of Waubamik Woods follows the story of a young first nations woman hitch hiking across Northern Canada . She’s picked up by a newspaper reporter who warns her of a wolf in the area that’s already claimed the life of one women. Not wanting another fatality\, the man gives her money for a bus and a place to stay until it comes….but they quickly discover the wolf is closer then they had thought. \n\n\n\n\n\n

DESCRIPTION:Pro-Ana\, the film is a young woman’s journey ofrecovery and escape from the cult of pro-ana\, whose adherents deify body dysmorphia and live by a strict doctrine of disordered eating. For this young woman\, recovery means losing everyone she loves in order to rediscover herself. \nDylan meets with a pro-ana support group daily. The group shares tips\, encouragement\, acceptance\, and – when necessary – discipline. But Dylan has begun to think she can turn their tips into a lifestyle that supports eating. \nWhen Maggie\, her counselor\, detects Dylan’s distance\, the group\, together with Dylan’s live-in boyfriend Shannon\, takes action to get Dylan back on the path to salvation through starvation.
