SUMMARY:LA SKINS FEST Native Writers Workshop
DESCRIPTION:The 2015 NOVEMBER WRITERS WORKSHOP is the final component of a year long Writers Workshop Series. This is an introductory scriptwriters program that prepares Native Americans for television and film writing careers. The Writers Workshops were formed in accordance with the L.A. Skins Fest’s mission to improve media portrayals of Native Americans and to increase the number of Native Americans employed in all facets of the media industry. \nOn November 11th\, 2015\, we are conducting our third pitch pit for Native American writers. This workshop is designed to give Native American writers information that will grow their careers\, access to talent development\, and the capacity to pitch to creative executives. \nThe workshop consists of three components to enhance the participant’s writing career. The first portion offers an introduction to pitching to movie studios and television networks. This year\, a veteran television producer will discuss the ins and outs of proper pitching techniques. \nThe second component of the workshop is a script pitching session. This portion consists of the participants pitching their own scripts to creative executives and talent development. This gives the participants the opportunity to meet with creative executives and pitch their projects. \nThe final component consists of a reception to announce the month long 2016 SKINS WRITERS LAB\, allow the participant writers to meet\, discuss their projects and review the day’s work. The reception will also host speakers from executive positions. \nThe entire 2015 SKINS WRITERS WORKSHOP SERIES was comprised of three workshops. Each workshop focuses on a different segment of writing including a “mock” writers room\, talent representation and network executive panels and a pitch pit. \nThe November Writers Workshop is designed to offer genuine career building opportunities and encourage Native American writers to continue their craft.
