DESCRIPTION: Native American Women in Media\n\n\nDATE: Monday\, September 13\, 2021 at 7 p.m. \nLOCATION:Virtual Event \nTYPE:Diversity\, Conversation \nGENRE:Cinematic Arts \n\n\n\nVia Zoom \nVideo Recording Available Here: \n \nDESCRIPTION:\nPresented in conjunction with LA SKINS FEST\, this panel of Native American women will discuss their careers as writers\, actors\, and fillmmakers; the challenges they face; and how they overcome them. \nThe LA SKINS FEST is a film festival that provides opportunities for Native American filmmakers and offers additional programming to encourage them\, including a monthly writers group\, monthly directors workshop\, and youth multimedia workshops. \nAbout the panelists: \nTazbah Rose Chavez is a writer\, producer\, and episodic director on FX’s series Reservation Dogs and co-producer on NBC Universal’s Rutherford Falls. She was also part of AT&T’s Hello Lab Filmmaker Mentoring Lab\, in which she wrote and directed the short film “Your Name Isn’t English\,” executive produced by Taika Waititi and currently streaming on DirectTV. Raised in Payahuunadu\, Chavez is a citizen of the Bishop Paiute Tribe and comes from the Nüümü\, Dine\,́ and San Carlos Apache people. \nPrincess Daazhraii Johnson is the creative producer of the Peabody Award–winning PBS KIDS series Molly of Denali. Her screen credits include Jericho\, Big Miracle\, and Uncross the Stars. A Sundance Fellow for the Filmmakers\, Producers and Screenwriters Lab\, and also an Emerging Voices Rosenthal Fellow with the PEN Center\, she is Neets’aii Gwich’in and her family is from Arctic Village\, Alaska. \nKelly Lynne D’Angelo has written for television\, musicals\, books\, and animation. Her recent credits include TBS’s Miracle Workers\, Netflix’s Spirit Rangers\, and Adult Swim’s Final Space. A Native Tuscarora Two-Spirit and professional D&D Dungeon Master\, D’Angelo also owns a life-sized dragonhead\, once worked at a zoo\, and directed a version of Macbeth with the live audience in a pool. \nCara Jade Myers is a Native American actor\, writer\, and enrolled member of the Wichita tribe. In 2019\, she acted in an episode of the Emmy Award–winning series This Is Us. Most recently\, she was cast in Martin Scorsese’s upcoming film\, Killers of the Flower Moon\, shooting on the Osage reservation in Oklahoma. She was accepted into the 4th Annual Native American TV Writers Lab\, was a semifinalist in the ABC/Disney writers’ program\, and was among twelve selected as part of A3 Artist Agency’s The Colony program\, creating a TV pilot that is now in pre-production. \nAlyssa London (moderator) is the founder and CEO of Culture Story\, which creates books\, products\, and video content to showcase the vitality of indigenous cultures today and help others understand and have a greater appreciation for diversity. Her web series\, Culture Stories\, is nationally broadcast on FNX\, a PBS affiliate with a reach of 68 million households.
