The RSVP list will be checked in on a first-come\, first-served basis until the theater has reached seating capacity. \nCLICK HERE TO RSVP\nAbout A Winter Love\n\nBlue\, a 35 year old\, Navajo\, singer-songwriter has lost her creative spark to a series of bad relationships and to the harsh Minneapolis winter. But when she meets a younger guy\, Eddie\, a 25 year-old\, Lakota\, law school dropout\, she feels like she’s regained her edge only to find it slip away from her again when she discovers Eddie’s love was never his to give in the first place. A WINTER LOVE is modern day\, inter-tribal\, love story that shows true love is found in the season you love yourself. \nAbout the Guest\nRHIANA YAZZIE (Writer\, Director)\n\nRhiana Yazzie (Navajo) is a 2021 Lanford Wilson and 2020 Steinberg Award winning playwright\, a director\, a filmmaker\, and the Artistic Director of New Native Theatre\, which she started in 2009 as a response to the lack of connection and professional opportunities between Twin Cities theaters and the Native community. She is a 2018 Bush Foundation Leadership Fellow and was recognized with a 2017 Sally Ordway Award for Vision and has been a Playwrights’ Center fellow multiple times (McKnight 2016/17 & Jerome 2006 & 2010). A Navajo Nation citizen (Ta’neeszahnii bashishchiin dóó Táchii’nii dashinalí)\, she’s seen her plays on stages from Alaska to Mexico including in Carnegie Hall’s collaboration with American Indian Community House & Eagle Project. She has a new co-commissioned play in the works with Long Wharf Theatre and Rattlestick Theater and is currently developing at Victory Gardens’ Ignite Festival her newest play Nancy\, a Native bio-perspective on Nancy Reagan\, a sequel to Queen Cleopatre and Princess Pocahontas\, which was commissioned by Oregon Shakespeare Festival and the Public Theater for the American Revolutions cycle. \nHer first feature film\, A Winter Love\, (writer/dir/prod/actor) premiered at the LA Skins Fest in November 2021 and she was recognized with their Achievement in Directing Award. The film made its Canadian debut in the DreamSpeakers Film Festival in June 2022 and it has been making the global festival circuit at the Wairoa Maori Film Festival\, in New Zealand\, the Quetzalcoatl Film Festival in Oaxaca Mexico\, and the Minneapolis/St. Paul International Film Festival. Rhiana is working on her second feature film\, Wounspe Wankatya: A College Education\, this project in development was invited to the Sundance Producers Summit and won the 2021/22 Jerome Foundation’s Production grant. \nRhiana’s work in film includes being story editor for Babe Nation Films’ upcoming feature\, The Way Out. She production coordinated for Dolly Well’s Good Posture (Tribeca 2019) and Musa Syeed’s\, A Stray (SXSW 2016; MSP Int’l Film Festival “Best MN-Made Narrative Feature 2016”). She is a graduate of the University of Southern California’s Masters of Professional Writing where she produced events featuring Stephen Hawking\, Madeleine Albright\, Paula Vogel\, Herbie Hancock\, and Spalding Gray. \nModerator – Maddox Pennington is a nonbinary writer\, playwright\, stand-up comic\, lecturer at USC\, and citizen of the Cherokee Nation. Originally from Tulsa\, Oklahoma\, their work explores gender\, sexuality\, mental health\, and belonging\, and frequently invokes magical realism. Their debut bibliomemoir\, A Girl Walks Into a Book: What the Brontes Taught Me About Life\, Love\, and Women’s Work\, was published by Hachette Books in 2017\, and they produced and directed the award-winning nonbinary rom-com Love Chicken\, which premiered at the 2022 Hollywood Fringe Festival. \nPresented by the USC School of Cinematic Arts\, Outside the Box (Office)\, USC Visions and Voices\, and the LA SKINS FEST. \nAbout LA SKINS FEST\nThe Festival is an initiative of the Native American non-profit the Barcid Foundation and aims to showcase the rising talent in Native American filmmaking. This year the LA SKINS FEST is expanding the screening series to accommodate the growing talent in Indian Country. \nThe prestigious LA SKINS FEST ranks among the country’s best film festivals and is an annual gathering for film industry insiders\, cinema enthusiasts\, filmmakers\, and critics. The LA Skins Fest is considered a major launching ground for Indian Country’s most talked about films. Founded in 2007\, the Los Angeles Skins Fest\, presented in the historic TCL Chinese Theatre in Hollywood\, is a 6-day multicultural event celebrating the art of film\, TV and new media.
