SUMMARY:9th Annual Native American Feature Film Writers Lab Call For Applications
DESCRIPTION:The Native American Media Alliance has opened applications for the ninth annual Native American Feature Film Writers Lab. This is a 10-week program that will take place on-line from August through November 2026 sponsored by Comcast NBCUniversal\, Weingart Foundation\, Los County Arts & Culture. \nEach year the Feature Film Lab provides incredible support for Native American writers seeking support for movie script development. Several fellows have gone on to write for Disney\, Westbrook and other world renowned studios that need new voices to execute their movie slate. The application is available below. \n \nThe Native American Feature Film Writers Lab addresses a growing need in the entertainment industry. According to the Writers Guild of America Inclusion Report\, Native Americans represent 0.8% of screenwriters “having almost no representation at all.” This program will offer new opportunities for Native American writers seeking to break into the entertainment industry and change the current disparity. \nThe Native American Media Alliance will select five Native American writers to participate in the program. The lab will consist of daily workshops with an established screenwriter and peer workshopping sessions. Additionally\, participants will attend a series of meetings that will further expose them to the entertainment industry. The purpose of the lab is to further develop the skills of the writers and prepare them for employment in the industry. \nThe Native American Feature Film Writers Lab was created in accordance with the Native American Media Alliance’s mission to improve media portrayals of Native Americans and to increase the number of Native Americans employed in all facets of the media industry. \nCheck out past fellows here: \nInaugural Native American Feature Film Writers Lab \n2nd Annual Native American Feature Film Writers Lab \n3rd Annual Native American Feature Film Writers Lab \n4th Annual Native American Feature Film Writers Lab \n5th Annual Native American Feature Film Writers Lab \n6th Annual Native American Feature Film Writers Lab \n7th Annual Native American Feature Film Writers Lab \n8th Annual Native American Feature Film Writers Lab \n_________________________________________ \nApplication Process \nHow it Works: \nThe Native American Feature Film Writers Lab will take place from August to November of 2026.
