SUMMARY:10th Annual Native American Writers Pitch Fest and Staged Reading - Recap
DESCRIPTION:Native American Virtual Pitch Fest and Staged Reading was a virtual and in person event that has public and invitation only portions. This event celebrates the may writers who participated in our intensive labs. The pitch fest is divided into four segments to allow Native American participants to garner the most opportunities. \n  \nSchedule \n1p PT – Discussion: Focus on Pitching (Virtual) \nNative American writer fellows met with screenwriter and showrunner Hawk Ostby (Iron Man/The Expanse. Hawk offered insight into pitching and discussed the best method to pitch their specific projects. \n\n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n2p PT – Pitch Fest (Virtual) \nNative American writers pitched creative executives\, agents and managers. This opportunity provides indigenous writers with a genuine opportunity to have their ideas heard\, their pitches critiqued and build a relationship with one of our corporate partners. The 2021 pitch fest hosted 13 Native American writers to pitch their scripts\, projects and themselves to several network and studio development executives\, as well as managers\, and agents. This year’s pitch fest included ABC\, Bad Robot\, United Talent Agency\, Skydance\, Netflix\, Amazon and many other partners. \n\n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n5p PT – Staged Reading (Virtual) \nWe continued with a virtual staged reading of projects from our TV Writers Lab and Feature Film Writers Lab. This offered an incredible opportunity for our lab fellows to have their scripts read to a virtual audience by professional actors. It offered a new perspective on their scripts and gave them a fresh viewpoint on their material. \n  \n  \n8p PT – Writers Reception \nThe event concluded with an in person reception to celebrate the recipients of the Native American Writer Accelerator Grant. This is a $10\,000 grant for writers to expand their careers. In addition\, the 6th Annual Native American TV Writers Lab\, 4th Annual Feature Film Writers Lab\, 2nd Annual Showrunner Program and Inaugural Writers Seminar participants came together to celebrate their many achievements throughout 2021! \nCheck out the reception photos!
