Summer Schedule

In 2016, the LA SKINS FEST is expanding its youth multimedia workshop to offer year round curriculum. Since 2009, we have travelled to reservations, Native American urban organizations, and Indigenous tribes throughout the world to teach multimedia. This was exclusively a summer program for students on their annual academic break.

This year we are offering a year round program that continues to work with Indigenous youth throughout the spring, fall and winter months. We recently wrapped our first workshop of the year in February at the Morongo Band of Mission Indians TANF program. Dozens of youth interviewed elders, recorded traditional songs and worked with tribal dancers. They made several films that reflected their culture and reservation.

Our workshop will continue during the summer with the following workshops:

Iowa Tribe of Oklahoma – JUNE 15-20

Bishop Pauite Tribe – JUNE 27- JULY 1

Colorado River Indian Tribes – JULY 11TH- 15TH

Big Pine Pauite Tribe – JULY 25 – 30

Viejas Band of Kumeyaay Indian – AUG 8 – AUG 13

Amazigh Tribe of Morocco – AUG 2017

CURRENT: LA Water – JULY 17- AUG 14 (classes held every Sunday in Los Angeles)

In November, we will offer a workshop during the film festival taught by a visiting filmmaker. The instructor teaches youth new production techniques. Youth from the winter, spring and fall programs present their work at a special screening program during the festival.
